Elephant Seals & More

There were a ton of Elephant Seals on the beach... no pun intended!

This little Conure was on vacation with his family too!

2 Crows hoping to get a cracker from tourist!

Ground Squirrel enjoying a cracker!

On our way to Cambria we stopped at the Elephant Seal Vista Point off of Highway 101 not far from Hearst Castle. There were plenty of seals but they were on the far side of the beach as you can see in the first photo.

I actually found myself enjoying taking pictures of the crows & ground squirrels. One tourist, the Conure’s owner, was feeding them crackers even though there were signs saying,” Please Do Not Feed The Animals”. Apparently the signs don’t work too well because the crows & ground squirrels were very friendly… at one point a ground squirrel tried to crawl up my leg hoping to get a treat.

Love those pics. They turned out really nice. Wow.
I wonder, did the place smell like fish with all those seals?

You need a shot of Mookie stuck in the car.

Great wild and not so wild shots! You may have found your forte ... :)

Great snap! I saw my first ever squirrel in London a few weeks back.

They're pretty adorable.

Wow, thats ALOT of elephant seals! Great shots all round! That conure was a cutie, and Ive always had a soft spot for the squirrels, (unless they were digging up freshly planted bulbs, of course!) Not sure Id want one climbing on me tho LOL
Signs dont seem to work anywhere, that or they are too much 'work' to read!

"Don't feed the animals" would apply in MANY situations! Looks like you had a FUN trip! ~ jb///

About time Mooky got a vacation. He was looking a bit tired ;-)

Dang Sharon...pretty neat. If I ever saw a seal around these parts...well, I wouldn't grow hungry anytime soon. ;)

I'm assuming Mooky can't fly?

Wow, I'm surprised that conure go to be outside loose like that. Mom is afraid CC-man would get scared and fly off, so she keeps him in his cage when he's out!

The ocean and seals are beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I agree with t-man, I wouldn't dare have any bird of mine outside just free, in case they did fly, get spooked and lost.

that is cute...

I never take any notice of the 'don't feed the...' signs when they're just referring to wild animals.

k_tigress - I'm glad you enjoyed the photos & no I don't remember any fishy smells.

Honey - I think that will be my next post.

Anonymous - I wish there were more wild creatures for me to photograph but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Sonja - Now that you mention it he does look like he's ready to take a big dump!

Grump Les Tiltskin - That's the first time you've ever seen a squirrel... don't they have squirrels where you live?

Lavender - The ground squirrel is very cute but they can ruin a garden in no time flat!

LZ Blogger - We did enjoy ourselves!

MrManuel - I thought you might it's not far from the recent Cayucos wedding you posted... or at least I think!

4xB's - I couldn't even capture how many there actually were because they were so far away.

LisaBinDaCity - Well he's refreshed now... I hope!

Slick - I'm guessing an Elephant Seal could feed you for a long time that is assuming they're edible. Mooky can fly but that's why he had to stay in the car.

T-man - Your Mom's smart. I wouldn't take Mooky out like that even if his wings were cut!

DweezleJazz - The ocean was particulary beautiful that day. Yes, just because their wings are cut doesn't mean they can jump off your shoulder and get hurt!

MadWag - Thanks... haven't been to your blog lately but will visit today!

Mary - It's just a lovely neck of the woods!

Gazard - The Ground Squirrel sort of look like a hamster, huh?

barkfoot - Me either... if I had some crackers or bread I would have fed them myself!

I had a conure almost exactly like that sweet little darling! My parents didn't give him the attention he needed while I was at college and he developed a very nasty disposition, but I loved him all the same! He went on vacations with me just like that little one went with his family. I sure miss him. Thanks for sharing your great pictures!
