Praying Mantis Update

The other day when I went to turn the lights on in the garage I found the Praying Mantis again! I say again because I believe it’s the same Praying Mantis from my post titled “Garden Visitors” but of course I have no way of knowing for sure. But I’m pretty convinced it’s the same one since the garage door is just a few feet away from the planter where the cone flowers are planted & we usually keep the garage door open all day.

I put a piece of paper towel near him to crawl onto so I could place him back in the garden. He seemed happy to get back to the cone flowers but since then I haven’t seen him… maybe he snuck back into the garage!

Dang Sharon, that thing is huge!

If it was up to me to take that picture, I'd have to have a camera with high powered zoom.

I ain't kidding.

If its a large mantis then most likely its female and the most likely to be eating its mate if mated. ;)
LOL I feel sorry for those male mantises.

Well she sure looks great with the white garage as a backdrop!

Wow! what fantastic photos of the fellow or 'fellowess' :) So lovely that you put him back in the garden. And very brave too! Me like little critters, but am often quite scaredycat of 'em.

k_tigress - I think you're right that it is a female... I have a tendacy to call all things "He."

Anonymous - The white backgrounds makes her really pop!

Dweezlejazz - I'm afraid of some critters but not Praying Mantises.

Barkfoot - They are fun to watch although they don't do much but stand like a statue and wait for their next meal.

Perhaps you should interrogate a particular African Grey about the mantis's whereabouts :-)

That is a really cool mantis. Male or female. Have you ever carried them in your hand? They have scritchy feet :)

He's probably roaming around, lost in your tomato vines.

Maybe the mantis is trying to get out of the sun in these crazy hot hot days we're having here.

Make him identify himself as the "real" praying mantis or the "imposter" one :-)
